David Duchovny and Laverne Cox are set to star in the indie feature Soapbox, Nexus Point News has learned. The film will be directed by Andrew Jay Cohen(Neighbors), with a screenplay by Max Barbakow(Palm Springs).
Soapbox follows an aging soap opera star, played by David Duchovny, whose once celebrated career has been derailed by a long history of toxic behavior. When he is unexpectedly offered a chance at professional rehabilitation, he finds himself forced to collaborate with a showrunner, portrayed by Laverne Cox. Duchovny will also produce the feature alongside Barbakow.
David Duchovny is best known for his portrayal of Agent Fox Mulder on The X-Files, a role that cemented his status as a television icon, as well as his Golden Globe winning performance as Hank Moody in Californication. His recent credits include Prime Video’s Malice, where he starred opposite Carice van Houten.
Laverne Cox is best known for her role as Sophia Burset in Orange Is The New Black. Cox has recently starred in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie and Clean Slate.
Production on Soapbox is scheduled to shoot from March through April.
