Sources tell Nexus Point News that Jeremy Allen-White has dropped out of the upcoming limited series Enigma Variations. It is currently unknown why White dropped out, but casting is currently underway to replace him.
Enigma Variations is an adaptation of the 2017 novel by Andre Aciman which explores the various romances of the lead, Paul, in various stages in his life. Aciman is best known for his novel Call Me by Your Name which was famously adapted into the critically acclaimed 2017 film of the same name. Luca Guadagnino directed the film with James Ivory penning the script. Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer starred as the leads. The film won Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards.
White was attached to star and executive produce the series. Amanda Kate Shuman (The Wheel of Time) will serve as the series’ showrunner and executive producer, and Oliver Hermanus (Living, The History of Sound) will direct and executive produce. Aciman will serve as executive producer for the series as well as Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer of Media Res.
White has an impressive year ahead of him as he will be starring in A24’s Enemies and Sony Pictures’ The Social Reckoning, as well as The Mandalorian Grogu. He also most recently starred in The Iron Claw and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere as Bruce Springsteen. On the television side, White is best known for his work on Shameless and The Bear, with the latter earning him two Emmy awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Enigma Variations will begin production later this year.
